Very happy to have been awarded a @campaign4parks #NewPerspectives Bursary! In the coming year I’ll be working on creating a ‘Portrait of the South Downs’ - capturing photographs and stories of those connected to the land, from farmers and urban explorers to artists and writers. Sometimes it takes 10 years of work to arrive at a single moment that makes it all worthwhile! For me, that moment came today whilst walking back from the beach at Hope Gap with the most warm-hearted, magical group of writers/ friends in the rain at twilight in Sussex and receiving a call letting me know I landed the job of my dreams!! The last 6 months have been so difficult, I've faced so many challenges and at times felt like giving up on love, life, my work and my world. Sometimes it takes a single moment to remind you of who you are, what you're about and why you should keep going, against all odds. That moment came today, when I was sitting in Delores' living room in Seaford, with her dog Mabel listening to stories of home, hope, wonder and wandering. Ever grateful for every day. For the path and all those I've met along the way. Super happy to have been awarded a #ShiftingtheGaze writers bursary in partnership with @writingourlegacy @southdownsnp & in association with @newwritingsouth. I've always felt a connection to the South Downs. 🌄 I began leading group walks in the national park long before becoming a London guide and over the years have embarked on tons of wanderings to hidden gems dotted throughout the downs from windmills and chattri's to derelict churches and remote dew ponds! I'm excited to share the magic/ wonder/ connections/ possibilities/ the land holds with other writers though a creative walk & workshop.
